A beautifully textured Sylvaner from Alsace, made from old vines more than 50 years of age. Fresh pear, green apple and citrus meet white flowers, ginger and a subtle herbal edge, with a salty, mineral finish. It’s completely dry and medium-bodied, with enough weight and texture to make it considerably more serious than Sylvaner sometimes gets credit for.
Domaine Ostertag has been one of the names pushing Alsace forward for decades. André Ostertag began farming biodynamically in the 1990s, and his son Arthur took over the domaine in 2018, continuing the same focus on expressive vineyards and low-intervention winemaking.
Sylvaner was historically treated as something of an everyday drinking grape in Alsace, but Ostertag has long believed it deserves more attention. This bottling comes from old vines across several different soil types, with some vines more than 50 years old. The wine is made gently and spends time on its lees in stainless steel, building texture while keeping the fruit and minerality front and centre.
Old vines, salty minerality and a grape that deserves way more attention. Sylvaner showing everyone what it can actually do.
