A lively, naturally sparkling wine from Emilia-Romagna made primarily from Spergola, a local grape that nearly disappeared from the region. It’s bright and slightly rustic, with green apple, citrus and yellow flowers, plus a little breadiness from the lees. Dry, lightly fizzy and seriously refreshing.
Il Farneto was founded by Marco Bertoni in the 1990s on a small farm tucked into the hills of Emilia-Romagna. The estate is organically and biodynamically farmed, with a focus on preserving local grapes like Spergola and making wine with as little intervention as possible.
Frisant gets its bubbles the old-fashioned way. After a spontaneous fermentation, it goes through a second fermentation right in the bottle using fresh grape must. It stays unfiltered, leaving the spent yeast in the bottle and giving the wine its characteristic haze, texture and slightly yeasty character.
A little cloudy, a little fizzy and extremely easy to drink. Don't be afraid of the sediment. That's part of the fun.
