A deeply aromatic, skin-contact white from Moravia in the Czech Republic, made from Tramín Červený, the local name for Gewürztraminer. Rose petals, ripe peach and apricot meet orange peel, spice and tea, with plenty of texture and a gentle tannic grip from three weeks spent on the skins. It’s completely dry, despite all that lush, perfumed fruit.

Petr Marada farms in Mikulčice in the Slovácko subregion of Moravia, where his Tramín grows in the sandy loam soils of the Kněžské vineyard. The grapes are harvested by hand, then slowly fermented while macerating on their skins for three weeks.

Tramín Červený literally means “red Traminer,” a reference to the pinkish-red colour of the grape skins, not the finished wine. It’s essentially Gewürztraminer, but here the extended skin contact takes all those famously floral aromatics and adds tannin, spice and a distinctly savoury edge.

Floral, textured, spicy and completely dry. Gewürztraminer for people who thought they didn't like Gewürztraminer.
