Pignatello and a tiny amount of old local varieties. Dark cherry, plum and wild berries meet Mediterranean herbs, black pepper and a salty mineral edge. It’s medium-bodied and dry, with enough tannin to give it structure while keeping everything fresh and extremely drinkable.
Salvatore Marino farms in Contrada Buonivini near Pachino, at the very southeastern tip of Sicily. His family has been growing grapes here for five generations, and the vineyards are planted as traditional bush vines on limestone and clay soils, just a short distance from the Mediterranean. Everything in the vineyard is worked by hand, with a focus on organic farming and preserving the biodiversity of the farm.
Turi is actually Salvatore’s nickname in Sicilian, so this is essentially his namesake wine. The grapes ferment spontaneously with native yeasts before aging entirely in stainless steel. No oak, just dark Sicilian fruit, herbs, spice and that distinctly Mediterranean savoury character.
Warm-climate Nero d’Avola without the heaviness. Dark, herbal, a little salty and very Sicilian.
